Lord, how mysterious are thy ways

Studio

1Lord, how mysterious are thy ways! How blind are we, how mean our praise!
Thy steps no mortal eyes explore; 'Tis ours to wonder and adore.

2I do not ask that I may see
What in the future waits for me;
Let consciousness attend thy word,
And thine shall be the humble praise.

3Are darkness and distress my share?
Give me to trust thy guardian care;
Enough for me, if love divine
At length through every trial shall shine.

4Yet may my soul desires to know,
Be this my only wish below,
That Christ is mine—that great request,
Grant, bounteous God, and I am blest.

5Be this my joy, that evermore
Thou rulest all things at thy will;
Thy sovereign wisdom I adore,
And calmly, sweetly, trust thee still.
