Church Hymnal 28
Blest Hour When Mortal Man Retires
1Blest hour when mortal man retires
To hold communion with his God,
When earth-born passion he suspires
And leaves the world for prayer's abode.
2Blest hour when, weary of his load
Of guilt and sorrow here below,
The Christian seeks his Father's abode,
And finds relief from every woe.
3Blest hour when God inclines His ear
To mortal man's imploring cry,
Dispels the gloom of doubt and fear,
And bids the mourning spirit fly.
4Then is the time the soul can feel
Its God is ever drawing nigh,
Then broken hearts begin to heal,
And tears of sorrow cease to flow.
